Developing apprentices and updating journey workers to compete in modern construction takes an innovative approach to training. The Plumbers and Pipefitters Apprenticeship and Training program in Austin is a jointly administrated program with UA Local 286 and the MCA of Austin. In addition to educating and training workers on plumbing and pipefitting essentials, the center provides instruction to journey workers and apprentices on how to use software and hardware common in today’s projects. They train apprentices on how to use VDC software used today like AutoCad and Revit. They educate them in how to utilize coordination software like Navisworks, along with construction software such as Bluebeam, Procore and Autodesk Cloud Construction. They also educate and train the students on how to use robotic total stations as well as the software to pull points from the model and coordinate it with the equipment onsite.
This tour will provide a walk-through of the facilities to showcase the demonstration and training space as well as the equipment that they use. They will discuss the curriculum that they use to teach and the partnerships they have developed in order to provide the education required for today’s construction.
